Coatham too accommodating as G & S take the Points!
Coatham Road will look at this game as 3 points dropped in a contest that was decided by a comedy of errors in the Coatham back four. Coatham took the lead mid way through the first half, during a period in which the home team had dominated. A long ball found Naden 25 yards out, which he expertly controlled and played a delightful ball through to Murphy who then skipped past the keeper to make it 1-0. The home side rallied and were level after a mix up allowed Morrison a free header at the back post. Another defensive mix up allowed in Morrioson again to give G & S a deserved lead.
The game descended into a scrappy affair for the rest of the half with the referee blowing his whistle at every give opportunity, and to the dismay to the away side. The sides finished the half at 2-1.
Coatham dominated the early stages of the second half and were rewarded for when G & S scored a spectacular own goal to make it 2-2. Again Coatham were found wanting at the back and were then let down mid way through the half by some horrendous defending which allowed Morrison to score twice in the space of 5 mins. The pace and movement of the Morrison was causing problems for Coathams back four all morning.
The referee, buy this time bemusing both sets of players then awarded G & S a penalty, which has to be said was a worse descison than the one awarded at Anfield 2 weeks earlier, luckily for Coatham the impressive Morrison smashed the ball against the foot of the post.
C. Barry managed to pull a goal back late on with a finely struck shot from 20 yards, but it was too little too late, Coatham must surely tighten up at the back if they are to have any chance of success this season.
